YM FINISH SEASON ON A HIGH
Victoria Cup Is Won For 4th Time

On Wednesday night (19th May) the lads had their final game of the season and a chance to win some silverware. Local Renfrew rivals, Moorcroft were the opponents at Keanie Park in Johnstone and the Victoria Cup, one of the oldest trophies in Scotland, was up for grabs. After a competitive ninety minutes, stalemate at 0 v 0 was the outcome and the dreaded penalty shootout came into play. YM keeper, Chic Smith was the hero as he had two fine saves against the Moorcroft penalty takers and the YM finished up victors by 4 penalties v 2 penalties.
So the season comes to an end. Stewart McBean's first eleven ended up sixth in the league after an encouraging start where they looked like promotion candidates up until the beginning of Spring. However, some poor results over the Easter period put paid to that but overall, after coming up last season, the aim was to consolodate this season and that aim has been achieved.
Robert Paterson's second string had another good season finishing ending up fourth in the league table. Again, a good start to the season was followed by an indifferent period but a long lay off from November through to March due to the weather didn't help matters. Robert is standing down as team manager and we thank him for his contribution over the last four years where he had great success, winning a first title for the 'B' team two seasons ago. Robert is going to spend more time with his family and we wish him well.
